The Washington Games promote health and fitness through Olympic-style sporting events offered throughout Washington. As a nonprofit, 501(c)3, organization, the Washington Games will achieve its mission and deliver the greatest impact on Washington's residents under the Powered by You health initiative. During the 2008 Washington Games, thousands of athletes competed in traditional and non-traditional athletic competitions. Ultimately, the Washington Games strive to expand individual sports competitions and create premier events within each category. There will be opportunities for elite to recreational participants in Olympic, extreme and emerging sports. Approximately 7,000 Washington Games athletes competed in 23 sports fom June 29th through August 2nd. From golf to soccer, it was a very successful year. In 2009, the Washington Games are looking to expand to 30 sports with more than 10,000 participants. All of Washington's residents are encouraged to participate. The Washington Games is a member of the National Congress of State Games (NCSG). This association involves more than 40 states and 500,000 participants annually and is sanctioned by the United States Olympic Committee. 2008 Athletes of the Year GET IN THE GAMES!
